Sunday November 9: 7:00 to 10:00: Ars Mundi Opening. Arts of the World! A show of some of Hamilton’s artists from other lands. From Afghanistan to Venezuela, Japan to Iran. Algeria to Sudan. A preview of some of the artists who will be showing as part of our Opus Mundi Festival, last week in April, first in May. Gallery hours: 1 to 4, Wed-Sun; 6 to 8 pm Thurs and Fri. We are inviting you – the people who are truly at the heart of what we’re doing – to come out and show your support for everything that The Pearl Company is (and stands to be) for the City of Hamilton.Â

The Lowest Lanes have dried out their band gear from a Festival of Friends deluge that cancelled their mainstage performance in August, and are ready to hit the stage again . This time indoors. With special guests Ron MacDonald on standup bass and Steve Sinnicks on drums, the Lanes perform the show they nearly gave with a Halloween theme. There’s a smart little show at The Pearl these days. It’s filled with sometimes joyous, sometimes sad reflections about how people absorb the identity of their work
It’s beautifully written and directed by Ronald Weihs with an ensemble cast that quiver with earnest emotion.
Set against an evocative steel and wood landscape designed by Judith Sandiford, with projections that comment on the action onstage, it is a visually arresting experience.
It’s well worth your time. You Are What You Do continues Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2 p.m. Artword at The Pearl, 16 Steven St.
Oct 28 to 30 at 7:00 pm: Carlos and his Five Reasons, a delightful puppet show about witches for young audiences, at Artword @ The Pearl, 16 Steven St for 3 evenings, $5 Call 905-524-0606)
Carlos and his Five Reasons is a puppet play based on a traditional Spanish story, translated by Barbara Raimondi and Kerry Corrigan. The show runs about 40 minutes and is suitable for audiences age 4 to 10 years (and adults enjoy it as well). The show is performed by Studio Babette puppeteers Marie Franek and Helena Adamczyk. Artword Theatre’s first production in its new home, Artword @ The Pearl, runs October 16 to 26, 2008, Thursday to Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 2 pm.
You Are What You Do an original musical play celebrating the lives of working people, written and directed by Ronald Weihs. A theatrical collage of stories gathered from men and women about how work has shaped their lives. The result is a high-spirited ensemble production, with a cast of six, that uses songs, mime and inventive staging to celebrate the energy and imagination of real people. (more…)
